June is Acne Awareness Month and I couldn’t be more excited about the post I have for you today! Acne is something that so many people suffer from which may also affect their confidence. That’s why I am so happy to share with you how I have been fighting acne with my Clarisonic.
This post is sponsored by Clarisonic and Her Campus Media. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that make my blog possible! If you would like more information please see my disclosure.
I have always had the occasional breakout, but my acne took a turn for the worst in college. My sophomore year I developed terrible cystic acne that left me self conscious and in loads of pain. After finally getting it under control I knew I never wanted to go back to feeling insecure and relying on harsh skin care products again. That’s why I’m sooooo glad I now have a Clarisonic Mia 1 to help maintain my clear skin and combat feisty acne.
How Does It Work
Clarisonic devices gently vibrate for one minute, moving the brush head bristles around to flush water and cleanser into your pores. These movements remove dirt, oil, and debris that can lead to aging and breakouts. Since Clarisonic devices are sonic cleaning devices and don’t exfoliate your skin, they are gentle enough to be used twice daily (even for sensitive skin like mine)! The best part is that it is as gentle as your hands but cleanses up to 6 times better.
There are three different brush head attachments for the devices and I tried two for you:
The Radiance Brush Head
This brush head comes with your Mia 1 and is super soft. After just one use, my face felt cleaner and softer than it had in a long time! This brush is perfect for every day use and definitely gets the job done. However, if you have acne prone skin, it probably isn’t the best option for you. This is the perfect brush to maintain clear skin once your acne is under control.
The Acne Brush Head
This brush head is made for sensitive, oily, and acne-prone skin. However, it was a little intense for my sensitive skin. This brush head would be ideal if you are trying to get your acne under control. After just one use, I definitely felt like my pores were cleaned deeper than the Radiance brush head, but I wouldn’t use this one for every day use. This brush didn’t aggravate any of the pimples I already had which is especially great if you suffer from cystic acne like myself.
Pore and Blemish Gel Cleanser
This gel facial cleanser is unlike any acne wash I have ever used. While other face washes containing Salicylic Acid leave my face feeling dry and mistreated, the Pore and Blemish Gel Cleaner makes my face feel soft, clean, and revitalized. It is made for sensitive, acne-prone skin, and targets excess oil, pimples, blackheads and whiteheads for clearer looking skin. I love how easily it foams and how fresh my face feels after!
My Skincare Routine
Step 1: I like to start by removing all my makeup with my favorite wipes. I’ve learned the hard way by not removing my makeup before bed. This usually results in breakouts caused by dirt and oil build up that clogs my pores.
Step 2: Once I have removed all my makeup, I use my my Clarisonic Mia 1and the Pore and Blemish Gel Cleanser to clean my face. I start by wetting my face and the brush then adding a dime size amount of cleanser to the brush. Then I press the power button and cleanse my face. I start moving in circular motions over each of my cheeks, then move to my chin, nose, and forehead. I am always amazed at how well Clarisonic cleans my face when I find foundation on the brush that I had previously removed. It just goes to show how well the Mia 1 cleans! After the vibrate shuts off I rinse with warm water and pat dry.
Step 3: After I have finished cleansing with my Clarisonic, I apply a moisturizer. Since using the Mia 1, my moisturizer sinks into my skin so much more. I felt more moisturized after just one use! I have found that this is a crucial step in my skin care routine. It helps my skin glow even when I have a breakout.
Final Thoughts On Fighting Acne With Clarisonic
Use
I have been using my Clarisonic Mia 1 twice a day for the last two and a half weeks and absolutely love it! I’m not going to lie, it really tickled when I used it around my nose for the first time. I realized after a few uses though that it was more manageable and much easier to use in that area (which is good since it’s a problem area for me). In the short time I have used my Clarisonic, I have felt much cleaner and noticed fewer whiteheads on my chin. I hope that as I continue to use the device the blackheads on my nose will continue to reduce in size.
After using a makeup remover wipe (which I thought took majority of my makeup off), I was surprised to find that my face still had foundation on it. I didn’t even realize until after I washed my face with my Clarisonic and it was skin colored. Now I can sleep well at night knowing I don’t have any residue left on my face.
I love that the bristles on the brush heads are made from a soft and non-porous material so I don’t have to worry about the device harboring bacteria. This is one of my biggest fears with any cleaning related tool. I am sooooo glad I don’t have to worry about it with my Clarisonic!
The deceive is waterproof which makes it easy to clean. It’s also perfect to use in the shower to knock off two tasks at a time.
Cost
As a broke college girl, I can understand the concern about investing in a device from Clarisonic. However, I am here today to tell you that I completely recommend Clarisonic devices (and plan to buy another one for my boyfriend), after seeing the results I have in the short time I have been using it. Lucky for you though, I also have a great opportunity for you to get any Clarisonic device! Use code HERCAMPUS at checkout for 15% for a limited time and be on your way to healthy, clear skin!
Please remember that you are beautiful no mater what. Whether you suffer from cystic acne like I have or have the clearest skin in the world. You were made by a God who loves you exactly how you are. As we bring awareness to acne this month, continue to be encouraged. You are not alone in this struggle and it is inner beauty that truly matters (as cliche as that sounds).
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. -Psalm 139:14
