The new year is quickly approaching, and I think we are all ready for it. I have shared before that I don’t like to set new years resolutions. In fact, I usually try to find different ways to improve myself each year. So I thought it would be fun to share 4 goals for 2021 you should have instead of a generic new year’s resolution.
This post is all about goals for 2021 that will change your life.
Goals For 2021 To Set For Yourself
1. Get rid of a bad habit
It is so easy for us to create so many bad habits without even noticing. Things like procrastination, negative self talk, and biting your nails are all bad habits. This year, focus on breaking at least one bad habit to get you closer to a better version of yourself.
2. Have a monthly/weekly social media detox day
While I love social media, I find that it can also end up being detrimental to our mental health as well. Taking one day a week or month off from social media can help us to be more present in our own lives instead of consuming the highlight reels of others.
3. Practice gratitude daily
Have you ever heard the saying that you get what you focus on? When you are practicing gratitude every single day, you are more likely to see positive things throughout your day. This keeps you in a better mindset and creates even more of what you are focusing on.
The key is to go deeper. Instead of just being like “I’m so grateful for my friends and family,” search for experiences and feelings. One of my favorite things to do is to find 3 things I am grateful for that happened the day before. For example, “I am grateful for the laughter of my friends at yesterday’s game night.”
4. 30 minutes of movement daily
Okay I know that health resolutions are typically the most popular (and have the highest failure rate). Instead of claiming you are going to make huge changes to every aspect of your health, try simple movement. This can be as easy as a walk around the block. Some other options are HIIT workouts, classes, or even playing sports. There are so many benefits to daily body movement.
How To Achieve Goals
I have always been shocked by the extremely low rate of people who actually maintain their New Year’s resolution throughout the year – like less than 10 percent!!
Goals are a much better option because they are more specific. Once you have set goals for the year, you should create a list of every step it will take for you to achieve these goals. This will create an action list for you to actually move you closer to the intentions you have set.
After you have created the list of action steps you can designate one or two things to each month. This will ensure that each month you are moving even closer to success with that goal.
