College is a constant string of events and running around like a chicken with your head cut off. Even if you have a few spare moments, you probably don’t want to spend a ton of time cooking or shopping for snacks. Instead of reaching for a cup of easy mac all the time, I wanted to create a list of some healthy college snack alternatives for the busy student.
These alternatives are great options to mix in with your favorite typical junk food snacks so you don’t feel like total crap all of the time. Snacking is given a bad wrap in the health industry but as long as you are mindful about it, I don’t see anything wrong with it:)
This post is all about different healthy college snacks for your dorm or apartment.

My Top Healthy College Snacks:
Protein Balls
These are my go to snack. Once you make a batch, you will have them for at least a week! I usually have 2 or 3 and they hold me over until the next meal. They are a great option because they are a little more filling so they help you snack less and satisfy you quicker! Plus they are completely customizable so I never get tired of them!
Apples & Peanut Butter
Apple and peanut butter is a great healthy college snack alternative. I love to slice apples and dip them in peanut butter (or almond butter). One of my favorite things is to sprinkle a little cinnamon on top the apples too!
Energy Bites
I don’t think any college student ever has enough energy to get them through all of the things they have to do. Give energy bites a try and see if they give you the power you need! Plus these look like they would be good for any gals that love sweets (hey there, me too!)
Frozen Chocolate Covered Banana
I have been making these since I was in high school! I love banana and peanut butter so add chocolate and I am THERE! These are super easy to make too. Once you have made them, I recommend storing them in an airtight container for maximum freshness (not that they will last very long lol).
Yogurt Parfait
A super easy healthy college snack to make is a yogurt parfait. You can throw some of your favorite yogurt into a bowl with some fruit and granola and ta-da! It’s a super easy and quick snack for those days where you need something asap!
Mug Cakes
I am all about sweets! This mug cake looks like the perfect late night snack. I would probably have this right before bed to get my sweet tooth fix in for the night 🙂
Almond Butter Rice Cakes
I know rice cakes have sort of a bad rap these days. I feel like people assume you are on some extreme diet if you are eating them. But have you ever loaded them up with almond butter and fruit!? Because it is DELISH!!!
Hummus & Veggies
A classic healthy college snack for me is hummus and veggies. It is rare that you will ever look in my fridge and not find these two things stocked. My go to is carrots and hummus but you could also do celery or even lunch meat wraps with some hummus and cheese! The possibilities are endless and the hummus offers a good source of protein so it’ll be more filling than other snacks.
Smoothies
I have a smoothie every. single. morning. These are such a great option for a quick and satisfying snack. A small blender like mine is perfect for a dorm or apartment and makes smoothies in about 2 minutes! My go to ingredients are almond milk, frozen strawberries, frozen banana, and even some peanut butter!
Apple Chips
A super easy snack is to make apple chips in the microwave. You can slice them thin into circular “chips” and lay them out on a microwavable plate. Then you can sprinkle with cinnamon and microwave for about 5 minutes. Make sure to check them frequently.
Not into making apple chips, these apple chips are my absolute favorite snack but they are not a budget friendly snack. The only ingredients are apples so they are a great option!
No Bake Cookies & Cream Protein Bars
I am all about the no back options! As much as I love to cook, sometimes I just don’t have time for it. Like protein balls, these are a great option to make a big batch once and have them for a while!
Cookie Dough Yogurt
This sounds so good I am adding the stuff to my grocery list next week. PLUS it says it only takes a minute so I am here for it!!
Literally Any Fruit or Veggies
I always love to have fruit and veggies on hand for snacks. Carrots, apples, bananas – you name it! These are super affordable and so tasty. Plus you should be having them every day anyways so a snack is a great way to get more!
Banana Ice Cream
It’s kind of a joke between my friends that I am an ice cream crack head. It is my dessert of choice most nights and I always have some in the freezer. I love that bananas are so versatile and can even offer a healthier alternative to ice cream for me.
