How To Start Your Morning Like A Proverbs 31 Woman
Wake Up Early
She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day’s work for her servant girls. Proverbs 31:15 NLT
Waking up early can be a huge struggle. Especially if you have an 8am class and you stayed up studying until 2am. I think the beauty in this verse is that “early” is different for everyone. The point is, don’t wake up 15 minutes before you have to be somewhere and think you will show up as the best version of yourself.
By waking up early, you give yourself time to prepare for the day. When you give yourself this time, you aren’t rushed. You can create a plan around your priorities instead of letting your commitments dictate your day.
Spend Time Reading Your Bible
Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Proverbs 31:30 NLT
Proverbs is a book all about wisdom. One way you grow in wisdom is by fearing the Lord. That can only happen if you are spending time reading His Word.
Reading the Bible can often feel intimidating if you haven’t ever made a habit of it. The good news is that you can start with just 15 minutes a day. Pick a book of the Bible (the Gospels are a great place to start), and read a chapter each morning.
The morning is a great time to do this because it starts your day grounded in The Word and growing closer to God.
Get Dressed
She makes her own bedspreads. She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns. Proverbs 31:22 NLT
Sometimes all you want to do is stay in your jammies all day. I get it. But the Proverbs 31 woman gets dressed in the morning. She takes care of herself and her appearance. Don’t confuse this with being vain or materialistic, though.
Getting dressed doesn’t have to be anything crazy or fancy. Just putting a little effort into getting ready for the day will help you feel better and more productive.
Move Your Body
She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. Proverbs 31:17 NLT
If you want to start your day like a Proverbs 31 woman, you should move your body in the morning. She is described as being energetic and strong. Moving your body first thing in the morning is proven to improve your day. Not only will it boost your energy and strength but also your mood.
This can look like an intense workout or a morning walk. Doing something to get your blood flowing first thing will significantly improve your day. I know everyone says to get up early and workout, but it’s for good reason!
Eat A Healthy Breakfast
She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day’s work for her servant girls. Proverbs 31:15 NLT
Part of treating our body like a temple means we nourish it with healthy foods. In college it can be hard to prioritize healthy meals. There are tons of easy breakfast ideas that can be made (even in a dorm). My go-to quick breakfast is a protein smoothie.
Other great healthy breakfast options:
Plan Your Day
She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31:27 NIV
The best way to avoid being idle in life is to create a plan for your day. Our habits make up our days, which make up our weeks and years. If you want to work toward the goals that God has placed on your heart, you need a plan.
I always say if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Planning your day can be as easy as noting your class assignments, time commitments, and any extracurriculars. Find what works for you and do that each day.
Get Started With Work
She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. Proverbs 31:13 NIV
As a college student, it can feel easy to want to skip this part. However, the last step to start your morning like a Proverbs 31 woman is to work with eager hands. Work is not just the job we have, but what we do each day. If you are a student, try to do that well: attend classes and do your homework. The Proverbs 31 woman does everything to the best of her ability.
