I’m usually pretty good about waking up in the morning to complete what I need to do. But sometimes, I hit snooze on my phone countless times and struggle to get out of bed. On these mornings, I typically reach for my phone and wake up slower than usual. Let’s be real, we can’t all wake up before the sun and complete a full day’s worth of tasks in a few short hours (shout out to you mom). Instead of pretending to be something we’re not, we can start with baby steps. There are a few things we can do to be a little more productive in the morning that will help you stay off your phone in the morning.
Get Out Of Bed
Even if you are moving from your bed to the couch, get moving! If you stay in bed for extended periods of time, getting up will seem more daunting and it will be harder to stay off your phone in the morning. By getting out of bed, you let your body know it’s time to wake up and you won’t need the “help” of your phone to wake you up.
Make Your Bed
Now that you have gotten out of bed, you mine as well make it. Completing this task will take up some more time and you won’t be tempted to crawl back into bed to scroll through social media in the morning. Since being in college, I have found that making my bed every morning makes me feel more productive since I complete a task before leaving the house. Plus, you’ll love coming home to a made bed every night!
Do A Daily Devotional
Instead of spending time on social media, you an stay off your phone in the morning by doing a devotional. Lately I have been loving Jesus Calling (affiliate link) because it is short and easy to digest. Diving into the Word is a great addition to your morning and will keep you from checking your phone for a few more minutes. If you are someone who does better with short devos and minimal reading in the morning, I HIGHLY recommend this book!
Read A Book
At the beginning of this year I made it a goal to read 15 books. To help me complete this goal, I started reading 15-20 minutes in the morning. Even though this seems like a short period of time it helps to stay off your phone in the morning. Pick a good book and leave it on your nightstand. It can be the first thing you grab in the morning (instead of your phone). If you happen to still be in bed, sit up and wake up slowly with your book and a glass of water.
Create A To-Do List
Creating a to-do list will help you keep track of what you have to do for the day. After you’ve spent some time waking up, take a mental inventory of the things you want to complete. This will help you feel organized and stay off your phone in the morning.
Make Yourself Breakfast
Odds are you’ve heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Even if you don’t looovvveee to eat breakfast (I know I don’t), I encourage you to eat breakfast. This will fuel your body and prepare you to take on the day. Plus, it will take up a little bit of time and help you to stay off your phone in the morning.
Try to stay off your phone in the morning for a week and see how you feel! I would love to know any other tips you have for starting your morning off right.
